Weather

Our weather makes us unique and we’re proud of the many advantages and natural beauty that it brings us. Trillium is located in the extreme Southwestern corner of the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains. We sit on an unusually high plateau at the southern edge of the Blue Ridge, at about 4,000 feet above sea-level. Surrounding mountains soar to heights of 5,000 feet.

This prime location gives us a cool, refreshing summer climate where the temperature rarely exceeds 78 degrees. The average high and low temperatures are 77 degrees and 57 degrees in July and 42 degrees and 23 degrees in January. Temperatures often are more than 10 degrees cooler than a few hours' drive south.

Our location explains these unique weather patterns. Highlands, a nearby town located at 4,118 feet above sea level, is the highest incorporated town east of the Mississippi. In fact, biologist Robert Zahner says that, “Highlands is like a tiny little island sitting up on the Blue Ridge Mountains . . . and it drops off two or three thousand feet in all directions.”

People have come to the Highlands/Cashiers area for generations to escape the heat and enjoy the unusual combination of scenery and temperatures that our location offers. Call us today and arrange to come experience them for yourself.
